WorldSkills 2011 Selection Competition
With just four months to go before WorldSkills London 2011 gets underway at the ExCeL exhibition centre, the countdown clock is ticking. The selection process to represent the UK in the CNC Milling competition, against individuals from over 20 other countries, is reaching its climax in Wrexham on Monday 13th June when Squad UK members make their final bid for a place in Team UK during a week-long intensive competition.
To give UK competitors the very best chance of success in October, Nikken Kosakusho is sponsoring the NC Tooling while Sandvik are providing cutting tools. Both organisations will continue to provide support and sponsorship right through to the final event in London, demonstrating their commitment to workplace skills and the importance of training for young people.
Tony Bowkett, Group Managing Director of Nikken Kosakusho said that "Nikken has for more than 50 years understood the importance of workplace training and skills. The opportunity to show our commitment to ensuring future generations have the outstanding engineering skills required for the UK to compete globally, is one we could not pass over."
Ian Thompson, WorldSkills London 2011 Training Manager from Coleg Llandrillo Cymru said that "it is fantastic to have such prestigious companies supporting the young UK engineers giving them the best possible chance to compete on a World Stage. Stephen Donnelly from Scotland & David Nicholl from Northern Ireland have been working hard since last October to get up to a world class level. For them to have equipment supplied and supported by Nikken and Sandvik, gives them a boost of confidence knowing that they have the highest quality, industry leading tools at their disposal for the competition."
The winner of the Team Selection event will be announced at the National Apprentice Awards Ceremony on 29th June and everyone at Nikken and Sandvik wishes the UK's chosen representative every success later this year in London and will continue to support and sponsor them with further input from Ian Thompson as the main competition approaches.
