WorldSkills 2011 Competitors prepare at Nikken Kosakusho Europe Ltd
David Nicholl (from Schlumberger) and Sam Andrews (from BAe Systems) spent last week with Ian Thompson (WorldSkills Training Manager for the UK from Coleg Llandrillo Cymru) at Nikken Kosakusho Europe Ltd in Rotherham practicing and preparing for WorldSkills London 2011.
With the global competition at the ExCeL Centre in London due to commence on 5th October, Nikken offered the use of their Doosan Machining Centre for the two young apprentices to further hone their skills in preparation for the CNC Milling Competition and the Manufacturing Team Challenge respectively.
Nikken has been selected as an Official Supplier for this prestigious global event. Group Managing Director Tony Bowkett commented that "Nikken has for more than 50 years understood the importance of workplace training and skills. The opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to ensuring future generations have the outstanding engineering skills required for the UK to compete globally, is one we could not pass over."
Ian Thompson said that "it is fantastic to have such prestigious companies supporting the young UK engineers giving them the best possible chance to compete on a World Stage. For them to have equipment supplied and supported by Nikken gives them a boost of confidence knowing that they have the highest quality, industry leading tools at their disposal."
